Argon 18 Bikes
Argon 18 is a Canadian manufacture of bikes that’s based in Montreal. It has a strong connection with the sport of cycling, not least because its founder is the former professional cyclist Gervais Rioux. He started the company in 1989 when he bought a bike shop at the end of his racing career. Over the next decade the business remained a bike shop, but it gained a reputation as being a leader in the industry.
A turning point for Argon 18 came in 1999 when it presented its first bike at Interbike, North America’s largest bike show. The focus for the company then was carbon fiber frames, and it released its first full carbon fiber bike in 2001 – it hasn't looked back since.
In 2005 the company launched the Gallium Monocoque, but it was in 2006 that the company started to gain real international recognition. This was thanks to professional triathletes Samantha McGlone, Torbjørn Sindballe and Bella Comerford. They all rode Argon 18 bikes, and each became a world champion in their respective disciplines that year.
Success continued on the track and then in 2008, Argon 18 won the Eurobike Design Award for its E-114. This was the bike that first introduced the world to the Oneness Concept - a design with a streamlined handlebar and integrated virtual stem.
Other technical innovations followed, including the patented 3D system. The company was also building its reputation in the sport of cycling. It continued sponsoring top triathletes through the 2000s, and got involved in road racing, sponsoring a number of teams including the Spidertech Pro Continental Team.
In 2014 Argon 18 took this a stage further with the formation of the Tour de France-competing BORA - Argon 18 World Tour team.
Today, Argon 18 bikes are available in 60 countries. A great selection is available here on Bike Exchange, the marketplace for everything bike.
